The Goshen RedHawks earned their first NLC title in baseball since 2022 with a 9-3 victory over the Concord Minutemen on Friday night. Goshen traveled to Dunlap with a 2-game lead over Concord in the conference with only 3 games remaining. A victory for Goshen would seal the conference, and Bryson Wilson and the RedHawks delivered. Bryson Wilson pitched 6 innings, allowing only 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and 2 strikeouts. Wilson also played a pivotal role on offense, earning a hit, a run, and an RBI on the evening. Ryen Diaz came in to close the game and put the Minutemen down in order to earn the NLC crown. Goshen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double from Jensen Meikle that scored Braxton Cline in the top of the 1st inning. Concord was able to answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game up after 1 inning of play. The RedHawks took the lead back in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single from Brycen Eaton to score Bryson Wilson, who led the inning off with a walk. In the top of the 3rd with the RedHawks leading 2-1, Braxton Cline led the inning off with a home run that sailed deep over the centerfield fence to give Goshen the 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, Jensen Meikle was driven home on a single from Colton Rapp to extend the RedHawk lead to 4-1. Goshen continued the scoring in the 4th with 5 consecutive singles from Eaton, Spencer Elliott, Braxton Cline, Jensen Meikle, and Jaxon Miller. This brought the score to 7-1, and it looked like the RedHawks would run away with the game. Concord answered back with a run in both the 4th and 5th innings to cut the lead to 7-3. The RedHawks added more insurance in the 6th with a leadoff double from Meikle, a single from Rapp, and a single from Wilson to give them the 8-3 lead. Rapp scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 9-3 after the 6th. Goshen would hold on to that score to finish the game off. Goshen improved their record to 16-4 (11-1 NLC) with the victory and added the NLC title. Goshen most recently tied to win the NLC in 2022 with Northridge, but won this year's title outright for the first time since 1998. Goshen hosts an out-of-conference game Saturday morning against Mishawaka Marian at 10 am.
