The Goshen RedHawks lost a non-conference game on Saturday morning at the hands of the DeKalb Barons by a score of 3-2. Aaron DeMott took the loss on the mound, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits in 4 innings with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Ryen Diaz pitched 2 scoreless innings with 1 strikeout and Jensen Meikle added a scoreless frame as well. DeKalb opened the scoring early in the first inning on a double and a walk that was followed by an RBI groundout to take the 1-0 lead. The RedHawks went down in order in the bottom of the 1st inning. DeKalb was able to add 2 more runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 3-0 lead. Fortunately, for the RedHawks, that was all the runs that would be scored by the Barons on the game. DeMott settled in and was able to pitch 2 more innings after the hot start from the Barons. Goshen was unable to score until the bottom of the 4th inning. Jensen Meikle started the inning off with a single, followed by a Jaxon Miller single. Meikle was thrown out at 3rd on a Colton Rapp ground ball fielder's choice. Bryson Wilson hit a fly ball to advance Miller to 3rd base. Rapp was able to get in a run down and steal 2nd base and Jaxon Miller stole home to open the scoring to cut the deficit to 3-1. In the 5th inning, Brycen Eaton singled with 1 out in the inning and advanced to 2nd on a Spencer Elliott single. Braxton Cline hit a 3rd single in the row for the RedHawks to load the bases. After a bases loaded strikeout, Jaxon Miller was able to draw the 2 out walk to bring Eaton home. Colton Rapp struck out in the next at bat with a 3-2 lead for the Barons to end the inning. The 6th and 7th innings looked promising to the RedHawks to continue to score, but they were sat down in order both innings to keep the score at 3-2 to wrap the game up. Spencer Elliott led the offense again with multiple hits. Jaxon Miller had the RBI for Goshen and also scored a run along with Brycen Eaton. Goshen continues conference play on Monday when they travel to Nappanee to take on the Northwood Panthers. That game is set to begin at 5:30pm.
