Baseball Wins Over Plymouth

The Goshen RedHawks improved to 8-2 (4-0 NLC) on Tuesday night in a conference matchup with a victory over Plymouth by a score of 11-3. Ryen Diaz improved to 4-1 on the year on the mound by pitching 6 innings allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits and 3 strikeouts. Jensen Meikle pitched the final frame for Goshen and allowed 1 run and struck out 1 batter. Goshen got off to a great start in the first inning with a Spencer Elliott leadoff double. Elliott later scored on a Braxton Cline RBI groundout to give the RedHawks the early 1-0 lead. Plymouth took the lead in the bottom of the first with a 2 run home run that sailed over the left field fence and gave Plymouth the lead 2-1 after 1 inning. It didn't take long for the RedHawks to tie it up. Bryson Wilson got a 1 out walk and advanced to 2nd on a fielder's choice. He stole 3rd base and then scored on an errant throw from Plymouth to tie up the score. Goshen was able to score again in the 3rd inning to take the lead that they would never surrender. Spencer Elliott and Braxton Cline each singled to lead the inning off. Jensen Meikle walked to load the bases up with no outs. Elliott scored on a Colton Rapp ground ball and Cline scored on a Bryson Wilson single. The RedHawks took the 4-2 lead after 3 innings. The 4th inning was the only inning of the evening where Goshen did not score. Jensen Meikle singled to lead off the 5th inning and was bunted into scoring position to Colton Rapp and scored on a Jaxon Miller single. Goshen led 5-2 after 5. The 6th inning saw the RedHawks plate 2 more runs on a Brycen Eaton single and Spencer Elliott walk to lead the inning off. Eaton scored on a Braxton Cline single and Elliott scored a Jensen Meikle RBI groundout. The last insurance runs for Goshen came in the 7th on a handful of walks that plated 2 runs and a single from Cline plated two more. Goshen led 11-2 after the top of the 7th. Plymouth was able to score 1 more in the 7th bringing the final score to 11-3. Some offensive highlights for Goshen were 11 team hits. Spencer Elliott and Braxton Cline each had 3 hits. Elliott scored 3 runs and drove in another. Cline had 4 RBIs on the night. Goshen returns to action at home tomorrow, Wednesday April 29th at 5:30pm against Concord in another NLC matchup.
