The Goshen RedHawks opened NLC play on Monday night with a victory over the Northridge Raiders by a score of 8-3. Goshen improves their record to 5-2 (1-0 NLC). Ryen Diaz (3-1) pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs and struck out 5 batters. Bryson Wilson came in to finish the game pitching 1 inning with 1 hit and 1 strikeout. The RedHawks led the first inning off with 2 runs right away. Braxton Cline singled to left, Jensen Meikle walked. Both of those players were advanced 1 more base by Colton Rapp and then were driven home by Jaxon Miller on a 2 RBI single. In the bottom of the 2nd Northridge tied the game up on a double and fielder's choice leaving the score 2-2 after 2 innings. Northridge then took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but Ryen Diaz settled in on the mound after that allowing no more runs beyond the 3rd inning. With 2 outs in the 4th inning Goshen got 3 straight hits from Manny Pizana's single, Karter Marcum's single, and Freshman Brady Kwilinski's double, giving Goshen a 4-3 advantage. Kwilinski, who is normally a JV player, was told at lunch time he would be filling in on varsity for the game and came through with a big night. Bryson Wilson added 2 more runs on a double in the 5th inning to score Colton Rapp and Jaxon Miller. Kwilinski got a 1 out triple in the 6th inning and was scored on a Spencer Elliott sacrifice fly to bring the score to 7-3. The RedHawks scored their final run in the 8th inning on a double steal of 2nd and home when Bryson Wilson swiped home plate and Pizana stole 2nd. Goshen ended the evening with 12 hits. Cline, Wilson, Pizana, and Kwilinski all had multi hit games. Jaxon Miller and Bryson Wilson each drove in multiple runs and Miller scored multiple runs himself. Goshen continues NLC play on Wednesday with a 6pm start at home against Warsaw. That game will be broadcasted by Sports Michiana as the game of the week at the Goshen Baseball Facility. Fans are encouraged to come out to the field or tune in at home.
