The Goshen RedHawks baseball team picked up their first victory against 3A ranked New Prairie on Monday night by a score of 2-0. Ryen Diaz picked up where he left off last season on the mound with a complete game shut out. Diaz pitched all 7 innings, throwing only 77 total pitches with 4 strikeouts and only 2 hits. Diaz's cousin, Braxton Cline, led the offense with a 6th inning 2 run home run to secure the RedHawk win. The RedHawk offense struggled to string multiple hits together with their first hit not coming until the 3rd inning when Bryson Wilson laced a single up the middle with 2 outs. The 4th inning looked promising when Jaxon Miller led the inning off with a single but was stranded after the Cougars were able to sit down the next 4 RedHawk batters. Karter Marcum was also able to single in the 5th inning in what appeared to be a positive inning but was stranded at 1st. All the fun on offense came in the 6th inning. Jaxon Miller hit another single to the left side with 1 out. Brady Kwilinksi came on to courtesy run for Goshen but his speed was not needed when Braxton Cline took a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence to give Goshen the lead. Diaz surrendered a 7th inning walk with 1 out but was able to sit down the next 2 batters to close out the game. Although the offense struggled, Miller had 2 hits, Cline had 2 RBIs and the home run, Spencer Elliott had a hit, Marcum had a hit, and Bryson Wilson had a hit. Goshen continues a busy first week with another home game against the Fairfield Falcons at 5:30pm.
